Payzone network offers hassle free and convenient payments option for property tax

03 May 2013

Payzone, Ireland’s largest consumer payments network is encouraging people due to pay their new Local Property Tax (LPT) to consider choosing cash payments as their preferred method of payment on their LPT1 Return Form.   As one of the approved Payment Service Providers, Payzone is offering a hassle free and more convenient payment option for the new LPT, payable from 1 July, 2013

Property owners will be able to pay their property tax across the network of 2,000 Payzone branded retail outlets located in convenience stores and independent retailers throughout the country. These retailers offer extended opening hours at weekends and evenings making it more convenient for property owners to pay. Payments can be made in a single payment or on a weekly or monthly basis, with the added flexibility to vary payments if required.  The service is particularly geared to help taxpayers budget more effectively by making smaller payments over more frequent periods throughout the year.

The appointment of Payzone as an LPT payment service provider is very much in line with the Government’s strategy to make it as easy and convenient as possible for customers to file their LPT1 return and to provide as wide a choice as possible in the payment method.

Commenting on Payzone’s appointment as a payment provider, Jim Deignan, managing director at Payzone, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by the Revenue Commissioners as one of the channels for the collection of the new Local Property Tax.  As we move closer to the deadline date for completion of the LPT1 Return Form, we strongly urge all property taxpayers to consider selecting the cash payments option for payment of the tax.”

He continued: “At Payzone, we believe we are providing a highly attractive and affordable payment service option that is ideally suited to consumers looking for an easy, convenient and cost effective option to suit all budgets.  With over 2,000 branded retail points across every county, town and community in Ireland and extended opening hours into the evening and over weekends, our network provides a compelling payments option compared to other alternatives that consumers are faced with.”

Cash payments of the LPT can now be paid in Payzone branded retail outlets but the official commencement date of cash payments begins from 1 July 2013 onwards.  In advance of cash payments, taxpayers must complete and return their Local Property Tax Return to Revenue by 7 May or 28 May if filing online, indicating their chosen payment option.  They can then follow a very simple three step process as follows to complete the transaction:

STEP 1
Detach and retain payslip at the bottom of the LPT1 Return Form.  This payslip contains bar-coded information used to process the payment, together with the household’s Property ID.  Payzone can use either of these or the person’s unique PPS number (PPSN) to identify their LPT payment.

STEP 2
Present this payslip (or your PPSN) to any Payzone Agency nationwide each time you make a payment.

STEP 3
The Payzone Agent will provide the taxpayer with a receipt for retention that includes payment amount and the unique Property ID.

A basic transaction charge will be applied to each LPT transaction, based on a tiered pricing structure as follows:

   Transaction Value

   Transaction Charge

   Up to €50.00
   €0.75
   €50.01 to €100.00
   €1.00
   Over €100.01    €2.00
