Parking Tag signs up 100,000th registered user!

Parking Tag, the pay-by-phone parking service operated by Payzone, has announced that it has now reached a landmark 100,000 registered users. To celebrate the service’s milestone, Payzone and Dublin City Council presented the lucky 100,000th registered user, Ger Holland, who lives in Killiney, Co. Dublin, with €1,000 worth of parking.



Operating in Ireland since 2009, the cashless parking service has now been rolled out by the local councils in Dublin, including Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, and South Dublin.  In addition, Parking Tag also operates in Arklow, Dún Laoghaire Harbour, Greystones and Wicklow town, with plans to expand to more locations across the country.  The service is designed to take advantage of mobile technology allowing motorists to pay for their parking in the most hassle free way possible – via the Parking Tag app on their smartphones, by SMS or phone call.


According to data released by Payzone, an average of 28,000 motorists are now using the Parking Tag service to park every week, with most parking on average three times a week.  With Tuesdays being the busiest day of the week, the most popular location for Parking Tag users, based on data collected by Payzone, is the Merrion Square area in Dublin City. 


The Parking Tag app, which has been downloaded by over 75,000 smartphone users, now accounts for almost 60% of pay-by-phone transactions, an increase in app usage of 20 per cent since last year. This growth is very much reflective of the position that mobile has now taken as the channel of choice for consumers and in particular the growth of apps, which are now used by 76% of smartphone users in Ireland.₁

With over 100,000 registered motorists and growing, Parking Tag along with the local authorities, plans to make parking even easier by expanding its range of mobile payment methods and introducing innovative new solutions to the existing service.
