Parking Tag made easier with more choice for payments.

25 July 2016

Parking Tag, the popular pay by phone parking system developed by Payzone and Dublin City Council, now offers two additional payment options.  Complementing the existing Parking Tag service, the new payment options offer users further choice by enabling them to complete a one-off transaction using their debit or credit card or by charging parking payments directly to their mobile phone account. The new payment methods do not require motorists to be pre-registered in order to use the service.

The new service is now available for use across all Parking Tag areas and it is particularly suited to those motorists who park less frequently, but who would like to take advantage of the benefits of hassle-free, cashless parking. Using the new payment methods, motorists not currently registered for Parking Tag can pay for their parking via SMS. Three and Vodafone customers can simply send an SMS to pay for parking and the parking fee will be deducted from their mobile phone bill or prepaid credit. Motorists will also receive a handy SMS reminder 10 minutes before their parking expires.

For one-off debit card payments, customers simply send an SMS and they will receive instructions to call Parking Tag’s automated phone line to complete the payment. Parking Tag users can then select an option to store their payment details for future use, making subsequent transactions even quicker and easier.

Commenting on the launch of the new services, Jim Deignan, Managing Director at Payzone Ireland said: “We are delighted to bring consumers even more choice when it comes to paying for parking. Today’s announcement is part of our stated plans to make parking even easier for motorists by expanding the range of convenient mobile payment methods and the introduction of innovative new solutions to the existing service.  The availability of unregistered payment options is very much in keeping with this commitment.”

The popularity of Parking Tag has continued at a significant rate with some 130,000 motorists already registered, using the auto top-up service available via the Parking Tag app on their smartphones, by SMS or by phone call. Providing a mobile payments service that is very much targeted at the occasional parking user is expected to be a welcome development among motorists and will provide Payzone with an expanded pool of motorists to service.
