Dublin, Monday 24 May, 2010:
Payzone, Ireland’s largest consumer payments acceptance network has been appointed by HP to provide payments services to the Rail Procurement Agency (RPA) for the Integrated Ticketing Scheme.  Payzone will also manage all payments processed via the ITS web site.

There may be an opportunity in the future to expand the scheme through Payzone’s national network of over 1,500 branded retailers, and should the RPA choose to do so, Payzone can enhance and develop further the transport card to enable additional low payment transactions which will provide significant benefits to retailers and consumers alike.

The integrated ticketing scheme will provide a pay-as-you-go system on re-usable smart cards in addition to holding weekly, monthly and annual tickets for regular commuters on Dublin Bus, Luas, Irish Rail, Bus Eireann and privately operated services.

Commenting, Jim Deignan, Managing Director, Payzone Ireland said: “We are delighted to be playing such a pivotal role in the Integrated Ticketing Scheme and are looking forward to developing the solution in conjunction with the RPA and HP. This is a very significant contract both for Payzone Ireland and for retailers throughout our network.   It’s also a very exciting opportunity as we envisage that these smart transport cards can be enhanced and complemented with additional payment solutions to enable and manage low value payment transactions.  Should the RPA choose to extend the transport card on a national basis, this will be the first time such a card will exist in Ireland.  Solutions akin to it, developed around international transport systems, are evolving rapidly, and Payzone believe they are well placed to lead the development in the Irish market.  As we increasingly move to a cashless society in Ireland, we see great potential in this area of enterprise, which will further compliment both Payzone’s online and retail network.”
