Refuse and Recycling Payments

Payzone was the first company to introduce an electronic pay as you go solution for the payment of domestic refuse and recycling payments. Households are issued with a swipe card which they bring into a Payzone Agent to make a payment. The card was first launched in conjunction with Kerry County Council in 2007 and has since been rolled out to other private waste operators and county councils throughout the country.

With this card there is no longer a need to use tags on bins. There is no need for consumers to purchase, retailers to stock or for waste operators to produce tags.

Payzone also offers a bill payment service to waste operators where a bill is issued to a household and the customer can bring their bill to a local Payzone Agent and pay the amount they wish to pay.

Some of the waste operators Payzone can accept payments on behalf of are:

  • South Dublin County Council
  • Kerry County Council
  • Greenstar
  • Fingal County Council
  • Country Clean
  • Eurowaste
  • Wastepal
  • Mulleady's Waste
  • AES
  • Killarney Town Council
  • Wilton Recycling
  • Wers Waste
  • Oxigen Enviromental
  • Cavan Waste Disposal
  • Barna Waste
  • Higgins Recycling

How it works?
Customers are issued with a card which credit can be added to at the Payzone terminal.  Customers can pay annual charges, half yearly charges, recycling or refuse charges. As a household’s bin is "lifted" by the waste operator, the credit on their account is decremented and can be recharged at any time. If a household’s account is not in credit, the bin will not be lifted.

Natural Gas Card

In partnership with Payzone in 2008 Bord Gáis Networks launched a new Natural Gas Card top-up service. Each prepaid meter customer receives a smart card which they can use to purchase credit in a Payzone Agent which tops up their meter.

A core requirement of the solution provided by Payzone is the provision of a network with widespread nationwide coverage. Initially the roll out was in areas around Dublin and further phases have rolled out to Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway as well as plans to go to other towns nationwide.

Whenever a customer’s card is placed in the Payzone terminal meter reading data is also retrieved from the card and sent to Bord Gáis Networks by Payzone.

Clamping

In 2005 Payzone launched the cash payment of clamping fines in Payzone Agents. The launch of this service removed the need for motorists that did not have a credit card to have to attend an office to pay their fine. Motorists can pay their clamping fines in agents that are within walking distance of where they are clamped. Several of the agents are open 24 hours a day which makes it more convenient for customers.  Customers obtain a clamping voucher to the value of the clamp in one of Payzone’s Agents. Once a customer obtains a voucher they contact the DSPS and the authorisation is given for the clamp to be released.
