Helping parishes modernise donations while reducing cash handling.

The Archdiocese of Dublin supports a large network of parishes serving communities across the capital, each with its own fundraising and donation requirements.
As payment preferences changed away from cash, the archdiocese sought new digital ways to help parishes accept donations, enhancing their income and reducing reliance on cash.

Many parishes wanted to offer parishioners more convenient ways to donate while maintaining secure, transparent reporting.
The need became even greater during the Covid-19 pandemic, when traditional cash collections became increasingly difficult.
The Archdiocese of Dublin wanted a solution that would allow them to have full transparency of diocesan mass collections and dues across all their parishes, whilst giving individual parishes the autonomy to run their own fundraising initiatives online.
The Archdiocese of Dublin implemented Payzone’s online payment platform in 2019 which has since been adopted across 136 parishes within Dublin Diocese.
As per their requirements, Payzone allows the archdiocese to publish donations and other payment links that will be shared automatically with all their parishes registered with Payzone. So, when parishioners visit Payzone on their parish’s website or social media platform, they can view both the archdiocese and their own parish’s donation/payment links.
For parishes, Payzone's platform supports:
"Payzone is not just a payment method. We've grown with them over the years, integrating new online solutions for the Archdiocese of Dublin. They understand our organisation and continually help us grow.”
Today many parishes use Payzone for everything from weekly giving to certificate requests and seasonal collections.
QR codes have helped encourage donations during Christmas, Easter and Summer appeals, while online payments have reduced the need to handle cash and improved administrative efficiency.
The partnership has evolved over many years, with Payzone continuing to introduce new features as parish requirements change.
For example, the reporting for the archdiocese has been tailored over the years to their specific needs, so they can view breakdown payment and reconciliation reports, showing donation totals and details per parish and per individual donor.
Furthermore, donations in excess of €250 per annum can be identified and submitted to revenue to avail of tax relief, thereby increasing donation income.
